LearnFive Ways To Reduce Your FreeRide Impact

Snowsports are harmful to the environment and FreeRide is no exception

Let’s be honest. Snowsports are harmful to the environment and FreeRide is no exception. But we can all make a difference and reduce our impact. Here are five simple choices you could make.

1. Choose hydro.

Many resorts use green hydro-electric power to keep the lifts turning. Choosing resorts that utilise green energy over those that don’t will encourage “dirty” resorts to switch and won’t restrict the quality of your FreeRide adventures.

2. Don’t fly.

Ride local when you can but if you’re not blessed with your own  mountain, take the train or drive to your destination to reduce your CO2 emissions. Search your soul before going long-haul. We all dream of riding Japow, but if you don’t actually live in Japan can you get your kicks closer to home? The planet will thank you.

3. Buy once. Buy well.

Durability consumes less energy. Take pride in making your gear last many seasons rather than just one.

4. Don’t be toxic.

Avoid chemicals such as fluorocarbons that are used in water-repellent finishes and waxes but which are toxic to the environment.

5. Leave only tracks.

Everything you take onto the mountain should come back home with you. Wipes, energy gel wrappers, orange peel and cigarette butts have no place in Alpine ecosystems.
