I’ve lost count of the number of times my Gerber Crucial Multi Tool has saved the day. Making binding adjustments in the skin track, whittling kindling in a mountain refuge and even emergency surgery to a terminally broken ski on the Croix de Verdon. My Gerber has been there and earned the t-shirt.
Everywhere. I always ride with a backpack, in fact I have several backpacks depending on where I’m going and what I’m doing. I’m obsessive about where things go in my pack – everything must have a place and must be packed in a specific order. My Gerber has travelled with me everywhere and has a special ‘home’ in each of my packs.
My Gerber is pretty basic. Knife, pliers, flathead and phillips screwdrivers and that’s it. It does also come with a carabiner clip for attachment to a belt or bag but I have to be honest and say, it’s rubbish and I’ve never used it. OK, it’s not perfect but neither am I.
