LearnMade to Be Worn

Sustainable Outdoor Clothing With A Story

At FreeRide Republic, we’re all about chasing snow, fresh lines and that unfiltered connection with wild, snowy mountains. But we also know that every jacket, pant or layering piece we wear has a story — and too often it ends in landfill.

The Made to Be Worn project is a sustainable outdoor clothing initiative from One Tree At A Time, created to extend the life of outdoor gear, reduce waste, and reconnect riders with the stories woven into the clothes they wear.

What Is Made to Be Worn ? A Sustainable Outdoor Clothing Project

Made to Be Worn” isn’t just another reuse scheme — it’s a living, breathing tale of community, creativity and connection with our gear. The project takes outdoor clothing that might otherwise be forgotten — like donated ski uniforms or old jackets — and gives them a fresh chapter through careful repair, adaptation and celebration.

At its heart, the project is about valuing what we already own. Instead of treating clothes as disposable, each piece is restored, serviced and then sent back into the world — not just stored in the back of a closet.

How It Works — The Journey of a Jacket

Each garment in the Made to Be Worn project goes on a unique adventure:

  1. Repair & Adaptation – Jackets and gear are patched, repaired and fully serviced.
  2. QR Story Tag – A QR code is added so the story of each garment can be tracked over time.
  3. Community Wear – The item is given to someone in the community for a week.
  4. Stories Shared – Photos, short videos and anecdotes are uploaded, documenting the gear’s journey.
  5. Passed On – The jacket moves to its next wearer, gathering more memories along the way.

It’s a simple process, but a powerful one — transforming outdoor clothing from static pieces into shared experiences that connect wearers across time and terrain.

Why Sustainable Outdoor Clothing Matters to the Mountain Community

For us mountain lovers, gear isn’t just fabric and zippers — it’s part of our identity. The Made to Be Worn project highlights why sustainable outdoor clothing matters: durability, emotional connection, and respect for the places we ride.

Plus, this initiative helps keep perfectly good gear out of landfill, cuts down on unnecessary new production, and strengthens community bonds through shared stories and connection to the places we ride.

Join the Movement

Whether you’ve got gear gathering dust at home or you just want to celebrate the stories in every stitch, Made to Be Worn invites you to rethink what it means to wear — and share — your outdoor life. Each jacket has a tale to tell; together, we can amplify those stories and make sustainability a real part of how we ride, explore, live and celebrate.
