Ski outMellow off piste run from the Col du Borgne to the Lac de la Chambre piste in Meribel Mottaret. If you are seeking mountain inspiration this is where you will find it.
More ski tour than FreeRide this is a great little outing for those looking to escape the crowds. Easy to get to so long as you have a touring set up and are prepared to hike for a couple of hours on fairly mellow slopes. Only the final section up to the Col itself requires kick turns. Start at the top of Mont Vallon in Meribel Mottaret, taking the left just below the gondola top station to the viewing point. From here descend down to the valley floor keeping skiers left and staying as high as possible, looking for the traverse that will take you into the Borgne valley. Once in the valley transition to skins and start heading South up to the Col which should take no more than 2 hours skinning at a steady pace. It's up and back by the same route so scope your line out on the way up blowing out onto the Lac de la Chambre piste.
What 3 Words entry point
///collection.tape.fountainA touring set up is essential and there is probably more time spent on skins than you'd want to take on with extended power frame bindings.
If you're looking for an adrenaline rush this is not the line for you. It's super mellow and chilled which, on the right day, can be exactly what the Doctor ordered.
There's close to zero gnar on this route but a degree of fitness is required as you ascend up to 3,000m where the air is definitely thinner!!
The Col du Borgne is a magical wilderness that you have to experience for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
Just one of the many spectacular views from the Col du Borgne.
Touring through spectacular mountain scenery.
The last few kick turns up to the Col through a mystical wind affected snow field.
Descent from Mont Vallon with traverse highlighted in red.
