I’ll start by stating the obvious, I like riding with music (don’t shoot me – we can debate the sense in that another time). This helmet audio set-up brings me joy as without fail it serves up my tunes on the daily, lets me take a call when needed and have helped me out of a few sticky situations – more on that later.  They also happen to be bulletproof, functional and still going strong after 10+ years…..

These ‘Chips’ go everywhere with me on the mountain – in all weather conditions, all terrain types and all adventures. In avalanche terrain I tend not to listen to tunes, but I’ve often made and received calls from my riding partners communicating vital information on everything from snow conditions to navigation and much more – all this without having to take my phone out of my pocket or my gloves off – I see that as a massive plus. On more than one occasion, when I’ve lost my bearings or was finding it hard to visualise the terrain on a technical line, they’ve talked me down, in real-time, from below – for that I’m hugely grateful.

Things of note:

  1. They’re bulletproof, they’ve been with me on the mountain everyday since I’ve bought them and they’ve never let me down
  2. The sound quality is excellent considering they aren’t in-ear or noise cancelling, set right they allow you to hear the ambient noise from your surroundings
  3. The battery life lasts days (maybe not the 4 days or so when I bought them but still 3+) – oh and they let me know when the battery is running low
  4. They’re low profile and have fitted well in every helmet I’ve used them in
  5. They connect automatically to my phone every-time I switch them on
  6. The button interface / control is super easy to use and glove friendly
  7. If I receive a call on the mountain they let me know who’s calling so I can make good choices…
  8. They may look a little battered – that’s because they’ve been well used but are still going strong
  9. The dust cover for the charging port came off years ago but hasn’t caused any issues
  10. There must be a 10th amazing thing about these but I can’t think of one right now.
- They may be battered but 10+ years on they're still going strong
