I bought a pair of Dalbello Lupo T.I. FreeRide boots in 2017, they instantly felt like a game changer  – since then they’ve been my go to boot 99.9% of my time on the mountain, that meant that by the 2020 season I’d given them 40+ weeks of punishment. The upshot was shin bang had become a real problem – no amount of tightening the factory liner laces or boot buckle adjustment made any notable difference. Momentarily I was tempted to solve the problem by forking out for a shiny new pair of boots but I love these boots and I didn’t want them to go to landfill. Other than the liners being shot, they were in a gloriously tatty but seemingly fully functional state. A small amount of research led me to a pair of Intuition Tour Wrap Boot Liners to replace the factory liners. There was a global shortage, which meant my local boot fitter was unable to source a pair in my size so I had to buy online. He was very happy, for a small fee, to heat mould and fit the new liner, he even made an improvement to the fitting of my existing custom foot beds.

I felt a little trepidation buckling up for my first day on the mountain with my new liners, had they fixed the shin bang or was there a fundamental problem with the shell of my boot? I needn’t have worried, they felt amazing from the get go – in fact the boots felt better and more performant than they ever had, I suspect this was a bit of relief and recency bias coming into to play but still, I was super happy.

A full season later and I’m happy to report that they have lived up to expectations, no issues and they still feel as good as new. I know that one day they’ll befall the same fate as the stock liners and at that point my shells may need replacing too but I see many more weeks of FreeRide adventures ahead with these excellent liners.

Not only do these liners feel great, they seem well designed and manufactured too. One season doesn’t really give me a good idea of durability but as I said earlier they still feel great at this point. There are branded grab tabs at the top of both parts of the wrap around liner, which help any adjustment / repositioning of the liner before using the drawstring laces to pull tight around the instep and shin. They feel like the quality one would expect from a market leading / innovating brand.

- New liners, new levels of control and comfort.
