Why not think about an alternative option for travelling to the mountains other than flying? Whilst carbon footprint / emission calculations aren’t entirely straightforward – it’s broadly true to say that on a sliding scale flying is a high polluting form of travel, non-electric car the next and the least polluting being rail or electric car. Carbon offsetting any kind of travel is worth considering but unfortunately many schemes don’t deliver fully on their claims, so it’s considered best practice to use the least polluting option and then double offset your estimated emissions. Using a carbon calculator such as that supplied by Eco Passenger (see link below) makes things easier to figure out.
